New book about Aiken
Allen Riddick, Aiken High School Class of 1974, has written a book titled "Memories of Growing Up and Living in Aiken, SC." The book is a compilation of biographies and stories from people who grew up here or lived in Aiken for many years of their lives. Some of the people who tell their stories are Mrs. Cecelia Johnson McGhee, Mr. Frampton Toole, Jr., Mr. B. Henderson Johnson, Miss Johanna Gibbs, Mr. Lionel "Smitty" Smith, Mrs. Linda Carter Adams, and Mr. Richard Alvanos. There are sections about the coming of the Savannah River Plant, A&W Root Beer Drive-In, Fox Drive-In, the Patricia and Rosemary Theaters, and Scott's Lake.
The book includes great old pictures of our favorite local bands and scenes around town.
